Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Eligible for Supermax Contract After All-NBA Nod
Following his All-NBA selection and NBA MVP honors, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is eligible to sign a supermax contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
His All-NBA nod triggers a crucial clause in the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, allowing teams to offer up to 35 percent of the salary cap to players who meet specific service time and accolade requirements. Gilgeous-Alexander has checked every box, setting the stage for what could be a historic payday in Oklahoma City.
With four consecutive All-NBA nods, Gilgeous-Alexander met the performance requirements last season but didn’t yet have the necessary years of service. That’s no longer the case. The 26-year-old has officially cleared every hurdle to qualify for the league’s most lucrative contract tier.
Had he missed out on this year’s All-NBA team, Gilgeous-Alexander could have signed a four-year, $293 million extension. But with the MVP trophy and a fourth straight All-NBA selection now on his resume, he’s eligible for a five-year, $380 million supermax deal in 2026, according to Sports Illustrated's Ryan Phillips.
The potential contract would give Gilgeous-Alexander an average annual salary of $76 million—setting him up to be one of the highest-paid players in NBA history.
Gilgeous-Alexander lit up the league this season, leading the NBA in scoring with 32.7 points per game while adding 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists and a career-high 37.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc—a lethal combination that solidified his status as one of the game’s elite offensive forces.
