Yankees Staffer Shades Juan Soto, Says NYY 'Definitely' Better Off Without Mets Star
Amid New York Mets' Juan Soto's early struggles and his former team's early success, one New York Yankees staffer believes losing the star last offseason might have worked out better for the Yankees.
Per the New York Post's Jon Heyman, a Yankees staff member said they are "definitely" better off without Soto.
Through the first part of the season, it's hard to deny that New York isn't doing better than it would have had Soto been on the team. The Yankees sit atop the AL East at 30-19 thanks to MVP play from Aaron Judge. Through 49 games last year, New York was only marginally better, sitting at 33-16.

Meanwhile, Soto hasn't been himself after having a season last year that likely could have won him MVP had it not been for his teammate Judge. Soto has just eight home runs, 21 RBI and a .243 batting average in 49 games after posting 41 home runs, 109 RBI and a .288 average a year ago.
While he hasn't had a completely disastrous season so far, he's left much to be desired after signing a 15-year, $765 million deal last offseason.
But despite minimal contributions from Soto, the Yankees' crosstown rival has fared well this year as the Mets sit in second place in the NL East at 30-20.
Whether the Yankees are truly better off without Soto will be determined later on this season.
