Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Eligible for $380M Thunder Contract in 2026 After NBA MVP Win

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is reportedly in line for quite the payday.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday that the Oklahoma City Thunder guard won the 2024-25 NBA MVP, and ESPN's Bobby Marks explained he will be eligible for a five-year, $380 million extension during the 2026 offseason as a result.

Marks noted SGA will be eligible to sign a four-year, $293 million extension with the Thunder during the upcoming offseason after he could not sign a supermax last offseason because he didn't have enough years of service.

However, he is eligible for far more money if he is patient enough to wait until the 2026 offseason:

Wednesday's report ended any remaining MVP drama, as Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokić also made quite the case for it with an impressive season.

Jokić has already won three MVPs in his career, while this is the first for the Thunder star. Perhaps that worked against the Nuggets center when it came to the voting, as he averaged a triple-double of 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game this season.

However, Gilgeous-Alexander put up excellent numbers as well with a league-leading 32.7 points, 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks a night.

In fact, Charania noted the great Michael Jordan is the only other player in NBA history to average at least 30 points, five rebounds, five assists, 1.5 steals and one block a night while shooting 50 percent from the field during a single season.

Jordan did so twice in 1987-88 and 1990-91.

Gilgeous-Alexander didn't only win the MVP over Jokić, he also led his Thunder to a second-round playoff win over the Nuggets. OKC is now up 1-0 over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals and is just three wins away from reaching the NBA Finals.

A championship and MVP would be quite a season ahead of what promises to be a life-changing contract extension down the line.
