Cowboys' Jerry Jones Jokes About Proposal to Ban Eagles' Tush Push, Says He Flip-Flops

Doric SamMay 21, 2025

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was coy when asked about where he landed in the vote to reject the proposal to ban the tush push on Wednesday.

While speaking to reporters after the league meetings in Minneapolis, Jones was asked about what he decided and he joked, "I don't know. I flip-flop."

Of course, the tush push was made famous by the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who are one of the Cowboys' biggest rivals in the NFC East. Jones admitted that he had an internal struggle over whether he was actually against the play or if he simply wanted to take away a go-to play from the Eagles.

"Here we are debating it, and having to decide whether I'm really against the tush push or don't want Philadelphia to have any [success]. I sit there and fight that, too, smile when they're making their presentation," Jones said.

The Green Bay Packers originally submitted the proposal to ban the play, and 16 teams voted in favor of removing it from the game at the league meetings earlier this year. On Wednesday, 22 teams voted to approve the proposal, once again falling short of the 24 votes needed for it to go into effect. The Cowboys were not one of the teams that voted against the ban.

The offseason has been relatively quiet for Dallas, but the team made a splash on the offensive side of the ball by acquiring wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Still, the Cowboys will have to make a concerted effort to shore up their defensive woes after ranking 29th in the NFL in rushing defense last season with 137.1 yards allowed per game.
