49ers' Updated Salary Cap After Fred Warner, Brock Purdy, George Kittle Contracts

Andrew PetersMay 19, 2025

After missing the playoffs in 2024, the San Francisco 49ers are looking to get back to competing for Super Bowls, and that means spending money to retain their best players.

On Monday, the Niners made strides in that goal. They signed star linebacker Fred Warner to a three-year, $63 million extension that includes more than $56 million in guaranteed money, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal makes him the league's highest-paid linebacker.

The contract comes just days after San Francisco signed quarterback Brock Purdy to a five-year, $265 million contract. Earlier this offseason, the 49ers and tight end George Kittle agreed to a four-year, $76.4 million deal.

Before signing Warner on Monday, San Francisco had $43.244 million in cap space, the second-most in the league behind the New England Patriots, per Spotrac. The 49ers used some of that cap space on Warner, but will still have plenty to work with for the rest of the offseason.

Before an injury-riddled season saw the 49ers go 6-11, they had established themselves as a perennial contender, reaching the NFC Championship in three consecutive seasons and making a Super Bowl appearance in 2023. The three stars they signed to long-term deals this offseason have been one of the main reasons for their success.

Warner, who is gearing up for his eighth season, recorded 131 tackles, seven passes defended, five tackles for loss and a sack last season. Notably, he's been an iron man for San Francisco, missing just one regular-season game throughout his career.

Purdy, who shocked NFL fans by emerging as an MVP candidate in Year 2 despite being the last pick in the 2022 draft, threw for 3,864 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. In 2023, he had 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns.

Kittle, 31, had another outstanding year in 2024 with 1,106 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. The 49ers making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL came as no surprise.

The past few offseasons have seen San Francisco deal with holdouts and other contract drama surrounding Nick Bosa, Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk, but it seems that won't be the case this year. Having already signed Purdy, Kittle and Warner, the 49ers can begin preparing for what should be a bounce-back year.
