Omarion Hampton, Chargers Reportedly Agree to 4-Year, $17.8M Contract After NFL Draft
The Los Angeles Chargers' newest running back made things official on Monday.
Per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, Omarion Hampton, the No. 22 pick out of North Carolina, inked a four-year, $17.77 million contract with the Chargers. The deal includes a $9.56 million signing bonus.
Hampton, who spent three seasons with the Tar Heels, led the ACC with 1,660 rushing yards a year ago, a number that was good for the third-most in all of college football. In 2023, he posted 1,504 rushing yards. He finished his career with 36 rushing touchdowns, notching 15 in each of his last two seasons.

Hampton was the No. 22 player overall and the No. 2 running back on the final big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department. He was the second running back off the board in the 2025 NFL draft, only behind Boise State star Ashton Jeanty, the No. 6 overall pick. Hampton and Jeanty were the only running backs taken in the first round.
The Chargers were high on Hampton heading into the draft, as head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team rejected multiple trade offers to keep their No. 22 selection.
Hampton held a similar excitement about getting to play for Harbaugh.
"It's been great just getting to know him and everything," Hampton said of his new head coach during an appearance on The Jim Rome Show this week (h/t Omar Navarro of Chargers.com). "We know he's going to run the ball, he's decided to run the ball and it's something he wants to do. He did it all his career, so I'm just excited to get started."
The Chargers now have a talented duo in the backfield after drafting Hampton and signing free agent running back Najee Harris in March. Harris, gearing up for his fifth season, has rushed for more than 1,000 yards every year of his career thus far.
Hampton and Harris should help a Los Angeles rushing attack that averaged just 110.7 rushing yards per game in 2024.
