Joe Douglas Reportedly Returns to Eagles in Scouting Role After 2024 Jets Firing
Former New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas is back in the NFL.
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reported that the Philadelphia Eagles hired Douglas as a senior scout. He had worked as the team's vice president of player personnel from 2016-19 before leaving to run New York's front office.

Mendoza Explains Not Attending Draft

NFL draft trade ideas for every pick
McLane noted Philly had hits and misses on the personnel side when Douglas was working with general manager Howie Roseman. But he ultimately helped assemble a roster that won Super Bowl LII, while tight end Dallas Goedert and offensive tackle Jordan Mailata are holdovers from the 2018 draft who contributed to last year's Super Bowl LIX triumph.
Few will remember Douglas' tenure with the Jets very fondly.
New York never had a winning record in his six years there. Using the No. 2 pick in 2021 on Zach Wilson was a massive whiff, and that set the stage for the disastrous Aaron Rodgers experience. The bad far outweighed the good Douglas achieved, such as the Jets' haul from the 2022 draft.
However, the GM was far from the only reason for the Jets' struggles. The organization's problems start from the top, and Douglas couldn't possibly have known Rodgers would tear his Achilles in the opening game of 2023.
For the Eagles, the opportunity to hire an experienced front-office exec was too good to pass up, and Philadelphia is a place where Douglas should feel comfortable.
With the draft over and free agency pretty much complete, there won't be a lot of pressing matters for Douglas to attend to in his new position. Instead, he'll have the entire 2025 season to focus on his scouting duties and evaluate any prospective additions for the Eagles next spring.
