The Winnipeg Jets had star center Mark Scheifele in the lineup for Game 6 of the team's second-round series against the Dallas Stars following the death of his father, and he scored the game-opening goal in an eventual 2-1 overtime loss.
Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff confirmed to reporters Saturday that Scheifele's father, Brad, passed away unexpectedly on Friday night.

The Jets trailed the Dallas Stars 3-2 in the series and a win in Game 6 would have pushed the series back to Winnipeg for Game 7.
In response to the news of Scheifele's father passing, Stars fans reportedly made $55 donations to various charities that the Jets center is associated with, per Lia Assimakopoulos of the Dallas Morning News.
Scheifele scored 39 goals and had a career-high 87 points during the regular season. He has also added four goals and six assists in the postseason and was a key driver of the team's offense this season.
