NC State's Hollywood Smothers Deletes Post Showing Bill Belichick Photo as Dart Board
The NC State and North Carolina rivalry has some new juice to it with the addition of Bill Belichick as the head coach of the Tar Heels' football team.
On Thursday, Wolf Pack running back Hollywood Smothers revealed a dart board he's made for himself ahead of the 2025 campaign:
However, it appears Smothers has deleted the post, as it no longer appears on his Instagram story.
It isn't the first time a member of the NC State football team has expressed a pointed opinion on the hiring of Belichick in Chapel Hill. Quarterback CJ Bailey let his feelings on the matter be known in December.
He did acknowledge that it "means a lot that I could play against Belichick," but quickly added, "if he comes to play, we're gonna kill 'em."
The two teams also had a heated exchange at the end of NC State's 35-30 win over North Carolina this past season.
The Wolf Pack have earned some of that swagger when it comes to the rivalry, winning seven of the past nine meetings between the teams.
As for Smothers, the running back had a solid first season for NC State in 2024, rushing for 571 yards and six scores. He rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns against the Tar Heels last season, adding three catches for 34 yards.
Belichick has more to worry about than Smothers' tossing darts at his face, of course. Alongside trying to lead North Carolina back to prominence in his first college coaching gig after nearly 50 years in the NFL, he's also found himself in the news regarding his relationship to Jordon Hudson, nearly 50 years his junior.
That has brought a level of external distraction to Chapel Hill that he tried to avoid like the plague during his years leading the New England Patriots. Time will tell if it matters much once the Tar Heels actually take the field.
