5-Star LB Xavier Griffin Decommits from USC, Will Visit Ohio State, Texas, More
The USC Trojans' 2026 football recruiting class took a hit on Wednesday.
Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports reported that 5-star linebacker Xavier Griffin had officially decommitted from USC. He had committed to the Trojans in July 2024.
Fawcett then reported that Griffin has scheduled official visits at Ohio State, Alabama, Texas and Florida State.
Griffin is rated as the No. 22 overall player, the No. 2 linebacker and the No. 2 player from Georgia in the 2026 class by 247 Sports' Composite Rankings. He has received 37 offers and USC was the only school he had made an official visit to.
He hails from Gainesville, Georgia and had 43 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss and six sacks during the 2024 season. He will look to help the Red Elephants improve on a 7-4 record from 2024 before eventually heading to his new team.
USC has the No. 1-ranked 2026 class currently by 247 Sports, but Griffin was the only five-star commit. Where he chooses to go could potentially impact the ratings and USC will look to pivot elsewhere to fill the open linebacker spot.
