CFB Kickoff Times, Schedule Revealed for Bill Belichick's UNC Debut, LSU-Clemson, More

Scott PolacekMay 13, 2025

The start of the 2025 college football season is going to be a memorable one, and fans can start making their Week 0 and 1 plans.

That is because ESPN announced the kickoff times for a number of marquee games on Tuesday, including for the ones between LSU and Clemson, Alabama and Florida State, and Notre Dame and Miami. What's more, Bill Belichick's first game as head coach of North Carolina will be a Monday night showdown against TCU:

That slate of games is intriguing to say the least, and it doesn't even include arguably the matchup of the year that will also happen in Week 1.

Ohio State hosts Texas on Aug. 30 in a rematch of last season's College Football Playoff semifinal thriller. That game could pit the Nos. 1 and 2 teams against each other and will feature no shortage of star power with Arch Manning, Jeremiah Smith, Caleb Downs and others.

Unlike the ESPN slate that was announced Tuesday, Fox announced Monday it will broadcast that heavyweight showdown:

That means Aug. 30 alone will feature potential CFP previews in the Buckeyes against the Longhorns and LSU against Clemson. The Alabama and Florida State matchup also stands out, as it represents a road test for the SEC powerhouse and an opportunity for the Seminoles to bounce back in a big way on a national stage.

After all, they were 2-10 last season after finishing 13-1 the prior year, so a win over the Crimson Tide would go a long way toward announcing their return to the sport's elite.

The fun doesn't stop on Saturday, as the Notre Dame and Miami winner in Sunday's clash will have an inside track to its own CFP spot. The Fighting Irish made the national title game last season, while the Hurricanes stumbled down the stretch and just missed out on the CFP.

Starting their post-Cam Ward life with a win over a national brand like Notre Dame could set the Hurricanes up for a successful 2025.

Labor Day weekend wouldn't be complete without a marquee college football matchup on Monday night, and all eyes will be on Belichick's Tar Heels.

The six-time Super Bowl champion is starting a new chapter of his career as a collegiate head coach and won't exactly have the chance to ease his way into the new position with a game against a TCU program that is just two seasons removed from a national title game appearance.

Whether it is a win or loss, Belichick's college football debut will be one of the biggest stories of the weekend.
