Packers' Sean Rhyan Missed $2M Contract Bonus By 2 Snaps During 2024 NFL Season

Julia StumbaughMay 14, 2025

Green Bay Packers guard Sean Rhyan came two snaps shy of capping off his third NFL season with a $2 million bonus.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky reported that Rhyan was two snaps away from playing in 35 percent of the Packers' offense snaps between 2022 and 2024. That's the mark, specified in the CBA, which would have earned him a performance escalator bonus of $2,042,429.

It was previously believed Rhyan had hit the mark. Unofficial stats provided by Pro Football Reference indicated Rhyan was 65 snaps short of reaching the bonus heading into the last game of the season, per Packers cap analyst Ken Ingalls. Rhyan then played exactly 65 snaps in the Packers' Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Cameron Foster, the agent who represents Rhyan, told Demovsky he had also previously believed his client had hit that mark.

"[We had] him at 35% of snaps exactly," Foster told Demovsky. "However, the NFL and NFLPA both had him just under. So, per the Packers they are not giving him the escalator. We are pretty disappointed about it for sure."

Pro Football Reference reports that Rhyan has played 1,146 offensive snaps over his first three NFL seasons. That would indicate he had played in just over 35 percent of the 3,272 snaps the Packers played over three seasons.

According to Demovsky, however, NFL and NFLPA data states that Rhyan has played 1,144 offensive snaps, or 34.952 percent of the Packers' total throughout his career.

Rhyan, who was selected in the third round of the 2022 draft, made just one special teams appearance during his rookie 2022 season. He was then suspended for six games for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.

He returned to play a backup role at both left and right guard in 2023 before earning a starting role in 2024.

Jordan Morgan, a 2024 first-round pick, was battling a shoulder injury while Rhyan started 17 games at right guard last season. Rhyan, who is entering a contract year, will have to hold him off in training camp in order to keep his starting job next season.
