Yankees' Marcus Stroman Suffers Setback in Knee Injury Rehab, Aaron Boone Says
New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury that has sidelined him for the past month, delaying his return to the mound.
"He's gotten a lot of treatments on it and stuff," Manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday. "It just can't kind of get over that final hump to really allow him to get to that next level on the mound. We'll try and continue to get our arms around it and try and make sure we get that out of there."
Stroman experienced discomfort in his right knee after throwing live batting practice Friday in Tampa, Florida, and will be reevaluated to determine the next steps in his rehab process.

Stroman has not pitched since the Yankees’ April 11 game against the San Francisco Giants, when he gave up five runs in a single inning. He was placed on the 15-day injured list shortly after, with manager Boone initially hopeful it would be a brief stint.
Boone later acknowledged that Stroman’s knee issue likely contributed to his struggles on the mound, where he posted an 11.57 ERA and went 0-1 over three starts before landing on the IL.
"Certainly that last start, I think he just couldn't really step on that front side like he needed to," Boone continued. "I talk about how these guys are like race cars, and one little thing off and it can affect just that last level of command or that last level of extra stuff that you need. So we'll continue to try to get him where we need to."
Stroman previously underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee in March 2015 but made a surprising return to the mound by mid-September of that year.
The 34-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $37 million guaranteed deal that includes a player option for 2026, which becomes available if he reaches at least 140 innings pitched this season.
