The Hurricanes don't just have home-ice advantage heading into Game 4.
They also have all the momentum.
After a strong Game 3 start from the Capitals, the Hurricanes recovered to take a dominant series lead with a 4-0 shutout.
Saturday's scoreless opening period was highlighted by close calls, including Canes goaltender Frederik Andersen's block on a Tom Wilson breakaway.
More than half of the game had passed before Andrei Svechnikov opened scoring for the Canes by hopping on a loose puck following a face-off.
Jackson Blake drew a penalty minutes later, and Jack Roslovic capitalized by extending the Canes' lead with a power-play goal.
Early in the third period, Eric Robinson finished off a Canes rush to extend the home team's lead with his first goal of the postseason.
Blake then put the game out of the Capitals' reach with a late power-play goal.
Andersen turned aside all 21 shots he faced, including four from all-time leading regular-season goalscorer Alex Ovechkin, to earn the fourth playoff shutout of his career.
The Canes will have the opportunity to take a 3-1 series lead with another victory at home on Monday. Game 4 puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Golden Knights 4, Oilers 3
2 of 2
Game 3 between the Golden Knights and Oilers both started and ended with fast-paced action.
In the first period, Corey Perry opened scoring and tipped in a power-play goal minutes later to put the Oilers ahead early.
Later that period, Knights answered with two goals within 54 seconds to tie the game.
The Knights announced after the first period that captain Mark Stone would miss the rest of Game 3 with an upper-body injury.
William Karlsson gave the shorthanded Knights the lead late in the second period.
The Knights were just over three minutes away from a regulation victory when Connor McDavid beat Adin Hill to tie the game.
Overtime looked all but certain when Reilly Smith scored at the buzzer.
After review, officials found the puck had entered the net with 0.4 seconds left ton the clock.
The Golden Knights will now have the opportunity to even the series when the puck drops for Game 4 in Edmonton on Monday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
