Eagles' Saquon Barkley Reacts to Tush Push Rule Change Rumors, Teams Should Get Better

Paul KasabianMay 7, 2025

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley responded to the Tush Push debate and the fight to stop it, saying that if teams don't like it, they can get better at stopping it.

"If you don't like it, get better at stopping it. It's not like a play that, you know, we only can do. Everybody does it. Everyone tries it. We're just super successful at it. They were super successful before I was there. I know what it does to a team, how it breaks down a team, and now being on a team, you're lining up and everyone knows what you're doing, and it's like, 'stop me.'

"And they can't. So they're gonna be in their feels about it, gonna try to make changes, but I don't see that happening. And if it doesn't, just get better at stopping it."

Per Mark Maske of the Washington Post, NFL owners are "expected to consider a revised proposal" from the Green Bay Packers to ban all pushing and pulling of the ballcarrier on the field. Owners are meeting on May 20 and 21.

The Packers haven't submitted the proposal yet, per Maske, but there's obviously time for them to do so before the meeting.

The Tush Push has become a near-unstoppable play for the Eagles, with quarterback Jalen Hurts routinely getting the yard needed for a first down or a touchdown.

League owners tabled the potential ban last month. However, it's now been revised to account for all pushing and pulling of the ball carrier. On that front, Mike Jones of The Athletic reported that "people within the league believe such a proposal would have strong support."

Any potential change would need at least 24 of the league's 32 owners to vote in support. Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported that 16 of the 32 owners voted in favor of banning the Tush Push before the revision at the last league meetings in late March and early April in Palm Beach, Florida.

So now eyes turn toward Minnesota on May 20-21 to see if this drive to ban the Tush Push has legs. Ultimately, teams in favor of the ban need to persuade eight more owners to join them to get it done.
