CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens Duo Hyped by NFL Fans After Cowboys' Reported Trade for WR

Mike ChiariMay 7, 2025

NFL fans and analysts took to social media Wednesday to express excitement for the uber-talented wide receiver duo the Dallas Cowboys will deploy in 2025.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that the Cowboys agreed to acquire George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a third-round pick and additional pick swaps.

Cowboys No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb seemed to indicate Tuesday night on X that he knew something big was on the horizon:

With Pickens set to join Lamb as quarterback Dak Prescott's top two weapons in the passing game, there was plenty of hype on social media for what could prove to be among the league's most dynamic wide receiver duos:

The acquisition of Pickens fills a major hole in Dallas' lineup following the departure of former WR2 Brandin Cooks in free agency.

Dallas' offense struggled last season, finishing 21st in points per game, and Prescott missing nine games due to injury was a big reason why.

However, the lack of a big-time receiving threat aside from Lamb also loomed large, as no Cowboys pass-catcher aside from the four-time Pro Bowler (101 catches for 1,194 yards) had more than 59 receptions or 610 yards.

While Pickens tends to have a mercurial attitude at times, there is no denying his ability or production over the course of his three NFL seasons.

The 24-year-old has never finished with fewer than 800 receiving yards in a season, including a career-high 1,140 yards in 2023 and 900 yards last year.

Pickens also brings a down-field element to the table, which could open things up a bit more for Lamb to dominate on short and intermediate routes.

Opposing defenses can no longer key exclusively on Lamb, plus it pushes other receivers such as Jonathan Mingo, Jalen Tolbert and Ryan Flournoy into more fitting and defined roles.

Some eyebrows were raised when the Cowboys passed on selecting a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL draft despite there being a clear need at the position, but it seems they may have had something lined up all along.

Last season was a major disappointment with the Cowboys going 7-10 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020, but the pieces may now be in place to get back to the postseason in 2025.

It remains to be seen how two alpha wide receivers in Pickens and Lamb will coexist, but given 2025 is a contract year for Pickens, he will have every incentive to put up huge numbers and be a model teammate in the process.
