Padres' Mike Shildt Throws His Glasses While Arguing with Ump over Tatis' Ejection
San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt got his money's worth during an argument with home-plate umpire Adrian Johnson after being ejected in Monday's 4-3 win over the New York Yankees.
After Fernando Tatís Jr. was tossed from the game for questioning a called strike in the top of the eighth inning (starts at 8:30 mark), Shildt expressed his frustration at the strike call and ejection of his star outfielder by storming onto the field, throwing his glasses on the grass and yelling at Johnson.

The argument got so intense that first-base umpire Quinn Wolcott and Padres third-base coach Tim Leiper moved toward home plate in the event they needed to intervene.
Not surprisingly, Shildt was also ejected for his tantrum. He did make sure to note after the game that his glasses weren't damaged, joking that his arm isn't as strong as it used to be.
"My glasses made it. I did have my head about me to make sure," Shildt told reporters. "I got some—a lot of BPs on my shoulders—not as operable as I'd like but it came into play, and I made sure it stayed in the grass. I didn't want them scratched. I like these glasses a lot."
The ejections for Tatís and Shildt may have provided a spark for the Padres. They were trailing 3-0 with two outs in the eighth inning at the time, then proceeded to score four runs before the Yankees got the third out.
Manny Machado hit a two-run double with the bases loaded, followed by a two-run single from Xander Bogaerts that put the Padres out in front.
The Yankees went quiet in their last two turns at-bat, including a hitless ninth inning. They are 6-7 in their last 13 games since their season-high five game winning streak was snapped on April 19.
San Diego (23-11) has now won six straight games, its second-longest winning streak of the season. The Padres trail the Los Angeles Dodgers (24-11) by one-half game in the NL West standings.
