Hall of Famer Michael Strahan Reportedly Pursuing Giants Ownership Stake

Scott PolacekMay 5, 2025

Michael Strahan is already a New York Giants legend, and he reportedly might have a small ownership stake in the franchise in the future.

Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams of Sportico reported Monday that Strahan teamed up with billionaire Marc Lasry in an effort to purchase "a piece of" the approximately 10 percent of the Giants that is up for sale.

"The Giants' current owners, the Mara and Tisch families, are looking to spread that stake around to two or three wealthy individuals and families—as opposed to private equity," Soshnick and Novy-Williams reported.

It is a notable approach, as private equity funds are now legally allowed to purchase stakes into NFL franchises.

The report explained that the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins have closed deals with such firms, while approximately 8 percent of the Philadelphia Eagles was sold to a pair of family investors.

This comes after Gillian Tan and Randall Williams of Bloomberg reported last month Eli Manning was looking to lead an investment group to buy a stake of the Giants.

However, Soshnick and Novy-Williams reported the former quarterback "held preliminary conversations" to join Strahan's group before deciding against joining because of conflicts that arose with some of his other business holdings.

The Giants are one of the most valuable teams in the league, which comes as no surprise given their New York affiliation.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Forbes ranked the Giants as the fourth-most valuable franchise in the NFL at $7.3 billion. They were behind only the Dallas Cowboys ($10.1 billion), Los Angeles Rams ($7.6 billion) and New England Patriots ($7.4 billion).

As for Strahan, the Hall of Famer played his entire career for New York from 1993 through 2007. His list of accomplishments included a Super Bowl ring, four first-team All-Pro selections, seven Pro Bowl nods, a Defensive Player of the Year and six seasons of double-digit sacks.

His total of 22.5 sacks in the 2001 season stood alone as the all-time record until T.J. Watt tied it in 2021. The Giants retired Strahan's No. 92 in 2021.
