Seahawks' Jalen Milroe Will Use Virtual Reality Headset to Prepare for 2025 NFL Season

Scott PolacekMay 5, 2025

Rookie quarterbacks could do far worse than following in the footsteps of Jayden Daniels, and that is exactly what Jalen Milroe is going to do through the use of a virtual reality headset.

Daniels used the technique to help him improve on his overall progressions and awareness in the pocket, which is one of the things Milroe needs to work on as well as he starts his NFL career. So the new Seattle Seahawks quarterback plans on taking the same step.

"My new head coach (Mike Macdonald), we talked about doing that," Milroe said of using VR, per Cameron Van Til of SeattleSports.com (h/t Kevin Patra of NFL.com). "And so from now until game one, I'm going to utilize that."

Milroe also said he is training with Jordan Palmer, who is the brother of former NFL quarterback Carson Palmer and previously worked with Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen.

B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked the Alabama product as the fourth-best quarterback in the draft in its final big board of prospects. That put him behind only Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart.

Ward went No. 1 overall while Dart went No. 25, but it was Tyler Shough who was the third quarterback called when he was drafted in the second round. Milroe was next as a third-rounder, while Sanders famously fell to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round.

B/R's scouting report highlighted Milroe's ability to use his legs and his strong arm that helps on deep balls as strengths, but it also pointed to a need to develop more consistency in the pocket and with anticipatory throws.

The VR headset should help him do just that and accelerate a learning curve that will already be under the spotlight during his rookie season, since he is not expected to start right away with Sam Darnold and even Drew Lock on the roster.

In a perfect world, Milroe will learn behind Darnold and perhaps become the franchise quarterback down the line.

Yet that isn't always the easiest thing without live-game reps, which is why a technique like the VR headset can help young backups stay prepared and take strides even without consistent playing time.

It certainly worked for Daniels, as he won Offensive Rookie of the Year and led the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.
