Mets Lose Game No. 34 of MLB Season for 16th Consecutive Year
The New York Mets have an odd streak tied to their 34th game of the season—losing it for 16 years in a row.
It’s a weird one, but for 16 straight seasons, the Mets have dropped their unavoidable 34th game—no matter the opponent. Thirteen different teams, same result.

Most recently on Sunday, the Mets fell 6-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals, despite a late push. Trailing 6-3 after seven innings, they plated two runs in the eighth to close the gap but couldn’t complete the comeback in the ninth, continuing the 34th-game curse.
Dating back to 2010, only one player on the Mets’ current active roster was in the majors at the start of the curse—veteran right fielder Starling Marte, who made his MLB debut in 2007.
Next season, keep an eye on the Mets’ 34th game—and if history tells us anything, betting against them might be the safest play on the board.
