Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Per Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, Dart's rookie deal is worth $16.95 million fully guaranteed over four years, including an $8.97 million signing bonus.
New York selected pass-rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft but then traded back up into the first round to take Dart at No. 25 overall. That put the Ole Miss quarterback in position to earn quite the rookie contract as a first-rounder.
Dart was the only quarterback taken in the first round outside of Cam Ward, who went No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans. There was a time when Shedeur Sanders was seen as the possible second quarterback off the board, but the Colorado product slipped into the fifth round before the Cleveland Browns selected him.
That New York took Dart instead of Sanders was a storyline as the draft unfolded, but the Ole Miss signal-caller impressed in his final season of college while leading his team to a 10-3 record and Gator Bowl win.
He completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions while adding 495 yards and three scores on the ground as a runner.
Now, Dart goes from the surefire starter and leader of the offense at Ole Miss to a potential third-stringer in a crowded Giants' quarterback room.
New York also added veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason in moves that seemed to indicate it is ready to compete in the NFC East starting with the 2025 campaign. Given the presence of Wilson in particular, Dart likely won't start unless there is an injury or a shift in strategy with a focus on the future.
Still, that means he can learn behind the 10-time Pro Bowler at the start of his career before he is perhaps in position to take over the offense as his rookie contract progresses.
And that would give him the chance to show his ability to operate an NFL offense as a starter in the years to come, which would help him earn a bigger second contract if he can take advantage of the opportunity.
