Jayson Tatum, Celtics Eliminate Magic as NBA Fans Eye Potential Knicks Round 2 Matchup
The Boston Celtics are moving on to the second round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
After stumbling in Game 3 and escaping with a win in Game 4, the Celtics picked up a dominant 120-89 win over the Orlando Magic in Game 5 to close out the series.
Orlando led by two points heading into halftime, but Boston outscored the Magic 36-13 in the third quarter, setting up a relatively easy fourth quarter.
Jayson Tatum once again led the way for the Celtics, putting up 35 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. It marks Tatum's third 30-plus game in a row after he dropped 36 in Game 3 and 37 in Game 4 after missing Game 2 with a bone bruise. Jaylen Brown added 23 points in the win.
The Celtics are still awaiting the winner of the series between the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons, but fans are already looking ahead to a meeting between Boston and New York in the second round.
The Knicks had the chance to advance on Tuesday but lost Game 5 against the Detroit Pistons, so there's no guarantee Boston will face New York. Still, the prospect of the two historic franchises squaring off in the postseason for the first time since 2013 is exciting.
