Mykel Williams, 49ers Agree to 4-Year, $24.9M Rookie Contract After 2025 NFL Draft
After being selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Mykel Williams is officially a member of the San Francisco 49ers now that he has agreed to terms on his rookie contract.
Williams has agreed to his four-year, $24.9 million contract that includes a $14.8 million signing bonus.
Williams was the highest-drafted player by the 49ers since 2021 when they took Trey Lance No. 3 overall. The Georgia standout had nine tackles for loss and five sacks in his final college season, despite playing with a sprained ankle for most of the year.
B/R's NFL scouting department ranked Williams as the No. 25 overall player in the 2025 draft class, with particular praise given to his "impressive size and strength" and his ability to defend the run.
The 49ers will look to take advantage of Williams' ability to stop the run and are betting on their coaching staff to unlock his full potential as a pass-rusher.
Outside of Nick Bosa, who led the team with nine sacks last season, there is no one still on their roster from the 2024 team that had at least five sacks. Leonard Floyd and Maliek Collins, who ranked second and third in sacks, were both released in March.
San Francisco's approach in the draft was heavily focused on beefing up the defensive line. Williams, defensive tackle Alfred Collins and defensive tackle CJ West were all drafted within the first four rounds.
Williams is the marquee name from that group having played at Georgia and being selected high in the first round. If he hits like the 49ers are anticipating, it could be a game-changer for a defense that allowed the fourth-most points per game in the NFL last season.
