Anthony Edwards Wanted to Be a 'Pest' to Lakers' LeBron James in Wolves' Game 4 Win

Andrew PetersApr 27, 2025

Anthony Edwards has never been known to back down from another player, and that includes one of the greatest players of all time.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star exchanged shoves with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James during Game 4

"It's going to be physical, man," Edwards told reporters after the win. "...Just letting him know that we're here. You ain't just gonna push us around all night... Just trying to be a pest to him out there."

Edwards, still just 23 and nearly two decades younger than James, the older player in the league, had high praise for the veteran, but said that once the ball is tipped, he wants to bother him.

"We played together for USA and he was like a big brother to me," he said. "He looked out for me, helped me out a lot, read the game, IQ and everything. Just trying to be a pest to him out there."

Edwards and James are at opposite ends of their respective careers. James, in year 22, has little left to prove, while Edwards, in his fifth season, has everything to prove.

On Sunday, the two stepped onto the court with a similar goal of winning, and it led to an intense battle. Edwards ultimately finished with 43 points as the Wolves won 116-113 to take a 3-1 series lead. James had 27 points and 12 boards while his co-star Luka Dončić posted 38.

Edwards' performance made him the fourth player to have five or more 40-point games before turning 25. He joined James and Dončić on that list.

A year ago, Edwards led Minnesota to a playoff series win for the first time since 2004. After a magical performance on Sunday, he has the Timberwolves knocking on the door of the second round again.

He'll look to continue being a pest to James and the Lakers on Wednesday.
