SGA, Thunder Sweep Grizzlies amid Ja Morant Injury as NBA Fans Eye Finals Berth
The Oklahoma City Thunder are moving on to the second round.
The Thunder completed the first-round sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies with a narrow 117-115 win on Saturday, making them the first team to advance this postseason.
MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way for Oklahoma City with 38 points and six assists. Four other Thunder players were in double figures as Jalen Williams dropped 23 and Isaiah Hartenstein, Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Joe all put up 11.
Grizzlies star Ja Morant was out for Game 4 with a hip injury he suffered in Game 3, but Memphis managed to keep things close until the final seconds thanks to 30 points from Scotty Pippen Jr.
Even with Pippen stepping up, the Grizzlies didn't have enough to avoid the sweep.
The Thunder are on their way to the second round for a second consecutive season, but the ceiling for them is even higher. After the win, fans hyped the sweet and eyed a possible Finals run.
Oklahoma City has a long way to go to reach its first Finals since 2012, but pulling off a first-round sweep means the Thunder will get some much-needed rest before taking on either the Denver Nuggets or Los Angeles Clippers.
