Shedeur Sanders, Shilo's Best Landing Spots After Sliding Through 2025 NFL Draft Day 2

Paul KasabianApr 25, 2025

One of the most stunning falls in NFL draft history continued through Friday as Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, once considered a potential top-three overall pick, found himself undrafted through three rounds.

Sanders' draft stock slipped a bit over time, but he was still largely considered a Round 1 prospect.

The final B/R NFL Scouting Department big board had Sanders at No. 23 overall (No. 2 QB). The last B/R NFL Scouting Department mock draft listed him at No. 20.

But all 32 teams have made 102 picks combined, and Sanders is still available.

Five quarterbacks have gone ahead of him: Cam Ward (Tennessee Titans, No. 1), Jaxson Dart (New York Giants, No. 25), Tyler Shough (New Orleans Saints, No. 40), Jalen Milroe (Seattle Seahawks, No. 92) and Dillon Gabriel (Cleveland Browns, No. 94).

Surely, Sanders will go somewhere on Day 3. Here's a look at three potential landing spots, in addition for some potential NFL homes for his brother, Colorado safety Shilo Sanders.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Next Pick: No. 123 overall (No. 21 in Round 4)

The Steelers have passed on Sanders twice. First, they selected Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon at No. 21. Then, the Steelers took Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson at No. 83.

Right now, the Steelers have two quarterbacks in Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. Rudolph has proven to be a capable backup and spot starter when called upon. Thompson is perhaps best-served as a QB3/emergency signal-caller if needed.

Pittsburgh needs to add to the QB room, and the obvious answer is four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. The two clearly have mutual interest, and the Steelers obviously hope he'll say yes to them and agree to sign. But Rodgers isn't sure what he wants to do moving forward, with retirement on the table.

Pittsburgh can add another quarterback in the draft here. If Sanders is there in Round 4, he's an option.

Las Vegas Raiders

Next Pick: No. 108 Overall (No. 6 in Round 4)

The Raiders have turned toward Geno Smith as their starter after trading for the ex-Seattle Seahawk and then signing the 35-year-old to a two-year, $75 million contract extension. He's under contract with the team through 2027, although the Raiders can release him after 2026 without any dead cap penalties.

Smith takes care of the team's QB problems in the short-term, but long-term, Las Vegas needs some answers.

Perhaps Sanders could be the pick, but Las Vegas has already passed on him five times at No. 6 (running back Ashton Jeanty), No. 58 (wide receiver Jack Bech), No. 68 (cornerback Darian Porter), No. 98 (guard Caleb Rogers) and No. 99 (offensive tackle Charles Grant).

One can surmise that if the Raiders wanted Sanders, he'd be part of the Silver and Black by now, especially considering that the team had back-to-back picks in the back end of Round 3 and passed on him.

But the Raiders have two fourth-rounders (No. 108, No. 135). Maybe seeing him again at one of those spots if the slide continues finally leads to him being taken.

Los Angeles Rams

Next Pick: No. 127 Overall (No. 25 in Round 4)

Like other teams, Los Angeles has had multiple chances to take Sanders and passed on the opportunity. The Rams selected Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson at No. 46 and Michigan edge-rusher Josaiah Stewart at No. 90.

The Rams have six picks left, with four in the sixth round and one in the seventh. The one to watch may be at No. 127. It's easy to envision Sanders as a Ram, considering that L.A. has a big question mark at quarterback after 37-year-old Matthew Stafford's contract expires following the 2026 season.

Stafford is an exceptional talent, and it's all but certain he'll decide when his time is up. But it could behoove the Rams to select a potential heir apparent here.

The spotlight has been on Sanders for years given that he's the son of one of the biggest and flashiest superstar athletes of the past 35 years in Deion Sanders. But ironically, it probably wouldn't be on him nearly as much in L.A., where Sanders can just sit and learn behind a stout veteran in Stafford. Plus, he'd have a brilliant head coach to learn under in Sean McVay, so this could be a logical landing spot.

Shilo Sanders' Potential Landing Spots

Big 12 Football Pro Day

It is possible that Sanders goes undrafted. He did not land on the 250-player B/R NFL Scouting Department big board. He ranks No. 370 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board. The draft ends after pick No. 257, so it's possible Sanders could be looking for UDFA opportunities.

Of course, there are plenty of those once the draft winds down on Saturday, so chances are Sanders finds an NFL home. It may just not be via the draft.

As far as potential options, a few teams come to mind.

Back in January, the B/R NFL Scouting Department listed the following teams with safety as one of their top-five weaknesses: Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Out of those teams, the Falcons and Saints both added safeties in the draft and free agency. The Bills, Panthers, Cowboys, Texans, Colts, Jaguars, Chiefs, Dolphins and Vikings either added or re-signed safety talent, whether they be starting-caliber players, backups and/or special-teamers.

That leaves the Bengals and Buccaneers as teams who could potentially still use help at safety. Perhaps Sanders is an option for either team, whether at the back end of the draft or as a UDFA.
