Deion Sanders' 2024 Tweet Predicting Shedeur as Top 5 Pick Resurfaces amid Slide
Deion Sanders' prediction as to where his son Shedeur Sanders would end up in the 2025 NFL draft didn't age well.
A post in which the Colorado head coach predicted Shedeur would be a top five pick resurfaced as the quarterback fell out of the first round on Thursday night in Green Bay.
Colorado was still represented in the first round by Travis Hunter after the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to select the two-way star with the No. 2 pick earlier on Thursday.
Deion has been expressing his confidence in Shedeur's first-round draft status throughout his son's senior season at Colorado.
The Colorado coach said on the Pacman Jones Show last December that Shedeur was "going to be the No. 1 pick" if the New York Giants held the selection.
Shedeur similarly seemed to show his confidence in the franchise drafting him when he wore custom Giants-themed cleats ahead of his final game with Colorado.
Deion then said in a February appearance on ESPN's Get Up that he believed Shedeur should be the first quarterback chosen in the draft.
"He's the best one for the job and he's the most equipped," Deion said in February (h/t ESPN's Turron Davenport.) "Often times we draft these quarterbacks that have been on these elite teams then they get in these situations not conducive to success and that choke. He's never had the best of, but he's made the best of."
It was instead Miami's Cam Ward who went at No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans.
The Giants traded up to draft a signal caller later in the first round, but used the No. 25 pick to target Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart rather than Shedeur.
Shedeur completed 74 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns with 10 interceptions during his senior season in Boulder.
Listed as the No. 23 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback available on the final B/R 2025 NFL Draft Big Board, he will be one of the highest-rated prospects available when Round 2 kicks off Friday evening in Green Bay.
The Cleveland Browns start off the round at No. 33, followed by the Giants at No. 34.
