Warriors' Jimmy Butler Suffers Pelvis Injury After Hard Fall vs. Rockets, Will Get MRI

The Golden State Warriors' chances at taking a commanding 2-0 lead over the Houston Rockets in their first-round series took a significant hit in the first half of Wednesday's Game 2 when Jimmy Butler suffered an injury on a hard fall.

Golden State announced Butler was ruled out for the remainder of the contest with a pelvis contusion after he was unable to brace himself during the fall:

Houston ended up winning the game to even the series.

Butler is slated to undergo an MRI on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury, per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.

Head coach Steve Kerr told reporters, "Jimmy always says he's fine" while cautioning that the team will wait for the MRI results before making any decisions on his status:

The six-time All-Star had three points and two rebounds in eight minutes prior to the injury.

Golden State turned around its season by acquiring Butler from the Miami Heat via trade ahead of February's deadline. It went 23-7 in 30 games with him on the floor and then handled the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in tournament in large part because of his performance.

He poured in 38 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in that game against Memphis and then continued his excellent play with 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals in the Game 1 win over Houston.

Butler's presence takes some of the offensive pressure off Stephen Curry and gives the Warriors another player who can take over for extended stretches and capitalize on the spacing created by the guard's gravitational pull.

Fortunately for Golden State, it has two full days off after Wednesday's contest ahead of Saturday's Game 3 back at home.

After all, it likely needs Butler back and healthy if it is going to advance past the second-seeded Rockets and perhaps challenge for a deep run in the Western Conference playoffs.

While Jonathan Kuminga has fallen out of the team's rotation of late, he is someone who will likely see more minutes until Butler is ready to return.
