Cade Cunningham Amazes NBA Fans as Pistons Beat Knicks to Snap Playoff Losing Streak

Andrew PetersApr 21, 2025

This time last year, the Detroit Pistons were watching the playoffs from home after their worst season in franchise history. Now, they have their first playoff win since 2008.

Cade Cunningham led Detroit to a 100-94 win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday, tying the series at one win apiece and ending a 15-game playoff losing skid. In the second playoff game of his career, Cunningham dropped 33 points and 12 boards.

Just like Game 1, the Knicks outplayed the Pistons for much of the fourth quarter, and it led to a down-to-the-wire finish. New York tied things up with just over a minute to go, but Dennis Schröder, who finished with 20 points off the bench, hit a three to give the Pistons the edge again. After getting some crucial stops on defense, Schröder hit a free throw to make it a four-point game with just 8.1 seconds left, sealing the win for Detroit.

Cunningham struggled in the first game of the series on Saturday, but he proved on Monday that he's ready for all that comes with being the star player on a playoff team.

The Pistons had a strong regular season, but some questioned whether they were legitimate contenders heading into the playoffs. They proved with Monday's win that they're ready to compete, and now they'll head to Detroit on Thursday with a chance to take a lead in the series.
