Warriors vs. Rockets 2025 Playoff Odds

Golden State Warriors -188

Houston Rockets +158

Series spread: Warriors -1.5 (-114); Rockets +1.5 (-106)

The Warriors are the second No. 7 seed to be favored over a No. 2 seed in a first-round matchup since 1988, per Ben Fawkes of Yahoo Sports:

The Rockets finished the season with 52 wins and the No. 2 seed in the West, while the 48-win Warriors clinched the No. 7 seed with a win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

The first-round series will tip off Sunday when Game 1 takes place in Houston.

The Warriors had won 15 straight regular-season games against the Rockets heading into a Dec. 11 matchup in Houston, where Jalen Green's last-second free throws made the difference as Golden State conceded a 91-90 NBA Cup quarterfinals loss.

The two teams have alternated wins and losses since then, with the Warriors riding a 27-point night from Curry to a 105-98 win over the Rockets on Feb. 13.

It's the Rockets who hold the most recent victory in the series, however. Alperen ลžengรผn and Dillon Brooks powered Houston to an April 6 victory in one of the least productive outings of Curry's career.

Curry was held to three points that night, going 1-of-10 from the field while primarily battling defensive coverage from Amen Thompson.

That defensive assignment came after Curry had scored 52, 37 and 36 points in the three games prior to the Rockets matchup.

โ€œHe had been on a heater lately, and so we wanted to obviously pay him a little bit more attention,โ€ Rockets head coach Ime Udoka said after the game. โ€œAnd when you got a special guy like Amen doing what he does, thatโ€™s the result.โ€

The Thompson-Curry matchup will be key to the upcoming series. The Rockets meanwhile boast a two-big lineup that helped them finish the season as one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA last season, as well as enough physicality to make the series a grind for the Warriors.

But beating the Warriors four times will take regular production from Jalen Green, who has been inconsistent this season. It sounds like the oddsmakers are betting on Curry's continued offensive dominance, in addition to the boost provided by Jimmy Butler and the defense of Draymond Green, to prevail over the younger and less experienced roster in Houston.
