Warriors' Stephen Curry Says He'll Be 'All Right' After Aggravating Thumb Injury
Stephen Curry sounds like he will be ready to go for the Golden State Warriors' crucial regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Clippers after a brief injury scare on Friday night.
Speaking to reporters after the Warriors' 103-86 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, Curry said he will be "all right" after aggravating his thumb injury early in the game.
"From what I know, just an aggravation," Curry explained about the injury. "The same thing [as the earlier thumb injury], but hopefully it wasn't anything serious. I just know it hurts right now, but I'll be all right."
The issue occurred late in the first quarter when Curry banged his right thumb on Justin Minaya's knee while trying to create space. He was seen shaking out his hand immediately after it happened before going to the locker room for X-rays.
The Warriors said the X-rays came back negative, and Curry was able to return to the game midway through the second quarter. He sat out the entire fourth quarter with Golden State in total control of the game.
Curry dealt with a thumb issue in January, though he didn't miss any significant time because of it. He finished Friday's game with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.
The victory sets up a massive showdown between the Warriors and Clippers at Chase Center to end the regular season Sunday. Golden State can secure the No. 6 seed and avoid the play-in tournament with a win.
A loss to the Clippers, combined with wins by the Minnesota Timberwolves (vs. Utah Jazz) and Memphis Grizzlies (vs. Dallas Mavericks), would drop the Warriors to the play-in tournament as the No. 7 seed.
The Clippers also need a win to avoid the play-in tournament. They will lock up the No. 5 seed with a victory over Golden State.
