Magic Clinch No. 7 Spot in NBA Play-in with Win vs. Celtics, Latest Playoff Schedule
The Orlando Magic officially clinched the seventh-best record in the Eastern Conference standings and the top overall seed in the NBA Play-In Tournament with Wednesday's 96-76 win over the Boston Celtics.
Orlando will host the No. 8 team in the Eastern Conference standings on Tuesday, April 15. The time and opponent are to be determined.
If the Magic win their first Play-In Tournament game, they'll earn the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and face the Boston Celtics in the first round, who are locked in the No. 2 seed.
If the Magic lose, they would face the winner of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 game on Friday, April 18. The winner of that matchup would be the No. 8 seed in the East playoffs and would face the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round.
The NBA playoffs will begin one day later, on Friday, April 18.
As for the Magic, the team is 40-40 on the season and has had to battle through a number of injuries throughout the 2024-25 campaign, which most recently has included the trochlea injury in Jalen Suggs' left knee that will keep him out indefinitely.
That means Orlando's three best players, Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Suggs, have played 45 games, 59 games and 35 games thus far this season, respectively. It isn't easy to maintain success with those sorts of injury concerns.
The Magic took a major step last season, finishing 47-35 after posting a losing record in 11 of their previous 12 campaigns. While the end result was a first-round playoff loss against the Cavs, it was a step in the right direction.
This season has been tougher sledding, largely down to the injuries they've endured. Returning to the playoffs for a second straight season would be another positive development for the young core, however, and Orlando now enters the Play-In Tournament as the East's top seed.
