Pedro Martinez Says Family Members Are Missing After Dominican Republic Roof Collapse
Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martínez, a native of the Dominican Republic, said several members of his family were inside the nightclub that collapsed on Tuesday and are still missing, per ESPN.
"I still have family members that are still in the rubbles, and we don't know what happened to them," Martínez said in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday night.
During a concert at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, the rooftop collapsed around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. At least 124 people have been killed, and hundreds more were injured in the devastating incident.

Former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco were among the dead, as was Monte Cristi province Governor Nelsy Cruz, the sister of seven-time MLB All-Star Nelson Cruz. Dotel, a former World Series champion, was reportedly alive when he was found by a rescue crew, but authorities later said he was declared dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
Martínez, who currently works as a baseball analyst following a career that included three Cy Young Awards and eight All-Star selections, grew up in a suburb of Santo Domingo.
"It is with a heavy heart that it is my turn to actually send condolences to all our family members and the people here in the United States who have family over there," Martínez said in the video. "We're all sad. We're all affected by the tragedy. … Our hearts are with you. We all are affected."
It remains unclear what exactly caused the roof to collapse, and rescue crews are still searching for survivors more than 24 hours after it occurred. Per ESPN, officials said Wednesday that 145 people have been rescued from the wreckage.
