Suns Reportedly Don't Want to Trade Kevin Durant amid Knicks, Warriors Rumors

Zach BacharApr 7, 2025

The Phoenix Suns don't want to move Kevin Durant during the 2025 offseason, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

"Do the Suns want to trade Kevin Durant this summer? No, not really," Windhorst reported Monday. "But the reality is that the Suns' pathways of getting out of the second apron—to ensure they have flexibility—all seem to lead to Durant."

ESPN's Shams Charania previously reported there was "mutual interest" between Durant and the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

The Suns held conversations with multiple teams involving the 14-time All-Star before the deadline which are "likely to lead to action this summer," per Windhorst. "One of the reasons there wasn't a Durant trade in February -- other than Durant himself making it clear he didn't want one -- is the Suns were looking for a massive haul in return, per sources," added Windhorst.

Durant is in the midst of another strong individual season, averaging 26.6 points and 6.0 rebounds to go along with 4.2 assists per game on 52.7/43.0/83.9 shooting splits in 62 starts.

The 36-year-old has one year remaining on his contract, as he's set to carry a cap hit of $54.7 million for his 2025-26 campaign before hitting unrestricted free agency, per Spotrac.

The Suns are in danger of missing the 2025 postseason entirely, as they own the No. 11 spot in the Western Conference standings with a 35-43 record.

Phoenix may not want to part ways with Durant on the trade market, but his long-term future as a member of the organization is still unclear after he was reportedly the subject of negotiations with other teams prior to the deadline.
