CEO Estimates 25% of MLB Players Have Looked Into 'Torpedo' Bats amid Record Sales
"Torpedo" bats have continued to gain popularity across the MLB landscape at the beginning of the 2025 season.
Victus Sports CEO Jared Smith, whose company produces the official bats for Major League Baseball, estimated that about 25 percent of MLB players have contacted them or parent company Marucci to test the new bats, according to Caleb Mezzy of The Athletic.
Sporting goods manufacturing company Chandler Bats also revealed that they’re seeing “record sales volume in all channels” with the release of their torpedo bats, per Mezzy.

The bats contain an untraditional barrel, resting closer to the hands of hitters. More of the wood is moved towards the sweet spot of the bat compared to the end cap, which results in a shape that slightly resembles a bowling pin.
The torpedo bats are legal under MLB rules as they fit within the permitted maximum barrel diameter of 2.61 inches and maximum length of 42 inches (h/t ESPN's Jeff Passan).
Multiple members of the New York Yankees' lineup used the bats throughout the team's hot start to the season, setting a new MLB record with 17 home runs through four games.
Several other players outside of the Yankees' organization have utilized the torpedo bats including Elly De La Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, Dansby Swanson of the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.
