Wolves' Anthony Edwards Suffers Apparent Ankle Injury After Landing on Nets HC's Foot
Anthony Edwards was helped the Minnesota Timberwolves' locker room after suffering an apparent injury in the second quarter of a Thursday night game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Edwards appeared to suffer the injury after stepping on the foot of Nets head coach Jordi Fernández on the sideline.
The Timberwolves star had 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field in 14 minutes prior to exiting the game.
He returned to start the second half for Minnesota.
Having missed just three games this season heading into Thursday, Edwards leads the Timberwolves with 27.3 points per game through 73 contests.
He has also averaged 5.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest to help the Timberwolves fight for a top-six seed in the West.
Edwards most recently put up 34 points to lead the Timberwolves to a double-overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
His continued health will be key to Minnesota's hopes of beating out at least two of the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Minnesota Grizzlies in the race to claim one of the six guaranteed playoff spots in the Western Conference.
All four teams have 44 wins heading into Thursday. After taking on the Nets, the Timberwolves have just five games remaining to pull away.
This marks the second time in just over a year the Timberwolves were involved in an in-game collision between coach and player. Minnesota head coach Chris Finch suffered a knee injury that necessitated surgery following a sideline collision with Timberwolves guard Mike Conley during the 2024 postseason.
