The Lakers currently sit at No. 3 in the Western Conference standings with a 46-29 record, while the Warriors' 44-31 record puts them at the No. 5 spot in the West.

Golden State is just 0.5 games ahead of three teams tied for the No. 6 seed, while only one win and one loss separate Los Angeles from the Denver Nuggets at No. 4.

Even though they aren't currently set to face off against one another in the postseason, there's a chance that the Lakers and Warriors could clash as the No. 3 seed and No. 6 seed or as the No. 4 seed and No. 5 seed.

They previously met in the playoffs during the 2022-23 season, with Los Angeles taking down Golden State in six games during a second-round matchup.

Both teams also battled in the play-in tournament at the end of the 2020-21 season, as the Lakers narrowly prevailed over the Warriors by the final score of 103-100.

Green is in the midst of another strong defensive year, averaging 9.2 points and 1.5 steals to go along with 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field.

The Warriors have excelled following their addition of star forward Jimmy Butler prior to the trade deadline, owning a record of 19-5 over their past 24 games.

As for James, the four-time MVP is recording 24.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game on 51.0/37.4/77.1 shooting splits.

The Lakers have defeated the Warriors in each of their three matchups this season, although all three games occurred before Luka Dončić made his debut for Los Angeles following his blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks.

Green and James will have one more chance to battle before the playoffs begin, as Golden State travels to face the Lakers on Thursday night.

Tip-off is at 10 p.m. ET.
