Celtics' Payton Pritchard Signs Converse Shoe Contract, Joins NBA's SGA, Kelly Oubre
Boston Celtics' guard Payton Pritchard has signed a shoe deal with Converse, per The Athletic's Jared Weiss, joining Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kelly Oubre Jr. as signature athletes.
"As a player, I'm always looking for ways to push the boundaries of what's possible, and Converse shares that same mindset," Pritchard said in a statement. "I'm excited to join the Converse Basketball family and help inspire the next generation of athletes to find their voice and express themselves on and off the court."
Pritchard will be rocking new kicks for the remainder of the season after Thursday's announcement:
The 27-year-old has been fantastic for the Boston Celtics in his role as sixth man this season, averaging 14.0 points and 3.3 assists in 74 appearances while shooting 41.0 percent from three. His 240 three-pointers made this season are seventh in the NBA.
"His ability to impact games in so many ways," head coach Joe Mazzula told reporters when asked why he believed Pritchard should win the Sixth Man of the Year award this season. "I think sometimes that award just looks at a scoring standpoint. He's shown the ability to score, but the way he's been able to score—whether it's threes, transition, pull-up twos, layups. Really just impacting the game in different ways, whether it's offensive rebounds, defense, he's changed multiple games for us."
Boston's elite starting lineup of Jaylen Brown, Jayston Tatum, Kristaps Porziņģis, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White gets most of the attention when discussing the team, but Pritchard has provided incredibly valuable depth for Boston as they look to repeat as champions.
