Jayson Tatum, Celtics Called Out By NBA Fans After Loss to Bam Adebayo, Heat

Paul KasabianApr 2, 2025

The Boston Celtics entered Wednesday with a nine-game winning streak, but the Miami Heat emphatically ended that stretch with a 124-103 road victory.

The C's only led once after taking a 13-11 edge in the first quarter. Miami led 59-45 at halftime, but Boston fought back and cut the deficit to 91-87 early in the fourth quarter. However, Miami then rolled off a 33-16 run to end the game.

Miami is on fire thanks to a six-game winning streak, which followed a 10-game losing skid. Still, the 35-41 Heat (without Andrew Wiggins) were clear underdogs against Boston going into the evening despite the C's missing Jrue Holiday, Al Horford and Kristaps Porziล†ฤฃis.

Miami didn't look the part, though, while the Celtics slogged through the majority of the game, specifically the fourth quarter.

This marked an off-night for Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, who shot just 4-of-17 from the field (2-of-9 from three) en route to 16 points. He finished minus-11 on the evening. Boston also shot 27.9 percent from three. Jaylen Brown's 24 points paced the team.

Meanwhile, Tyler Herro led Miami with 25 points and nine assists, while Bam Adebayo added 21 points. Seven Heat players scored in double digits, including Kyle Anderson (19) and Pelle Larsson (16).

Ultimately, the game doesn't mean much at all from a standings perspective, as the Celtics are nearly locked into the No. 2 seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs. No team below the C's can catch them, and the Cavaliers sit five games ahead now with six to go.

Still, the Celtics probably aren't happy with a rough performance at home against a beatable team with the playoffs now just a few weeks away as they look toward a championship defense. Here's what head coach Joe Mazzulla had to say to reporters after (h/t Daniel Donabedian of ClutchPoints).

Tatum ultimately received some criticism for his performance, and the Celtics as a whole did as well.

The Celtics will look to rebound Friday when they host the Phoenix Suns at 7:30 p.m. ET.
