Warriors' Steph Curry Says His 'Tank is Pretty Full' After 52-Point Game vs. Grizzlies
Golden State Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry is fresh and healthy at the perfect time for a Dubs team looking to make a deep playoff run.
In a 134-125 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night, Curry dropped 52 points, giving him 15 career 50-point games, which is tied with Damian Lillard for the sixth most in NBA history.
Following his dominant performance, Curry told reporters: "I feel in a good rhythm. The week off helped. The tank is pretty full."
The 37-year-old veteran recently missed a pair of games due to a pelvic contusion before returning for wins over the New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings.
While the Warriors played well as a team in those games, Curry wasn't at his best, finishing with 23 points on 7-of-21 shooting and 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting.
Steph put it all together on Tuesday night, though, exploding for 52 points on 16-of-31 shooting, including 12-of-20 from three-point range. He also nearly recorded a triple-double, adding 10 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.
The two-time NBA MVP and four-time NBA champion is rounding into form for the Warriors' stretch run, and head coach Steve Kerr remains in awe of his ability, saying:
"Fifty-two points with people draped all over him, all game long. I've been watching this for 11 years, and actually longer before I became his coach. ... You get a real sense of just the magnitude of his talent. The guy is amazing to watch."
Tuesday's win was a massive one for playoff seeding purposes, as it moved the Warriors past the Grizzlies for the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 44-31.
Golden State is also a half-game up on the seventh-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves, which is key since securing a top-six seed avoids the postseason play-in tournament.
If the regular season were to end today, Curry and the Warriors would be lined up for a mammoth first-round playoff matchup against LeBron James, Luka Dončić and the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Lakers.
There is plenty that can happen between now and the end of the season since the Warriors still have seven games left to play, but if Curry continues to dominate like he did Tuesday, Golden State is poised to enter the playoffs as a highly dangerous team.
