The tush push is safe for now. The MMQB's Albert Breer reported NFL owners voted to table any possible ban until May.
The Eagles reacted to the news online:
It's hard to dispute Johnson's broad conclusion.
The Eagles are the only team that has consistently made the tush push an effective play in short-yardage situations. The retirement of legendary center Jason Kelce did nothing to change that for Philly in 2024.
In seeking to outlaw the tactic, ESPN's Kalyn Kahler reported the Green Bay Packers pointed to two factors: player safety and pace of play.
One problem is that there's no evidence supporting the first idea.
In February, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reported the NFL's internal data showed no player injuries during the tush push in 2024. Kahler echoed that detail in her report.
"The league presented the injury risk of the push sneak based on data modeling, saying defensive players are at risk while launching head-first, and offensive linemen at risk because of their bent posture operating in a narrow window, which could lead to neck injuries," she reported.
Kahler cited one club executive who described the presentation as "all subjective."
From the outside, it looks as though the Packers are motivated more by removing Philadelphia's competitive advantage than anything else.
Perhaps May's vote will bring a different outcome. If it doesn't, then Green Bay will have to stop the tush push the old fashioned way.
