Knicks Reportedly Plan to Sign P.J. Tucker to 2-Year Contract After 10-Day Deals
After joining the New York Knicks on a 10-day contract earlier this month, P.J. Tucker is sticking around long term.
Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the veteran has agreed to a two-year deal with the Knicks, keeping him with the team through the end of the regular season and playoffs. The contract also includes a team option for 2025-26.
Tucker, a second-round draft pick in 2006, spent several years playing overseas before returning to the NBA in 2012. Since then, Tucker has carved out a successful career and is now a respected veteran with playoff experience.
Tucker played for the Phoenix Suns from 2012 to 2017 before stops in Toronto and Houston. He joined the Milwaukee Bucks in the second half of the 2020-21 season and helped lead the team to a championship.
Tucker has played with the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers since 2021.
Last offseason, Tucker exercised an $11.54 million player option with the Clippers for the 2024-25 season, but didn't end up playing any games with Los Angeles. Before the start of the season, he and the Clippers parted ways as both sides sought a resolution for his desire to play elsewhere.
Tucker was eventually traded to the Utah Jazz in February but was later sent to the Raptors as part of the Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors trade. Toronto waived Tucker in February.
Tucker then signed a 10-day deal with the Knicks in March before getting another 10-day contract just two weeks ago.
While Tucker didn't have the chance for much playing time during the 2024-25 season, he now gets the chance to be a part of a championship-contending team as they look to make a playoff run.
The Knicks are currently sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference at 47-27 and have all the makings of a Finals team, but adding a grizzled veteran like Tucker should only help.
