Way-Too-Early Predictions for 2025 MLB All-Star Rosters
The 2025 MLB season is in its infancy, and the All-Star Game is still several months away at this point, but it's never too early to start looking ahead to the Midsummer Classic.
One of the liveliest debates each season centers around the biggest snubs when All-Star Game rosters are selected, so why not start that debate now?
Each month during the 2025 season leading up to the All-Star roster announcements, we'll be giving our best guess at which 64 players will get the call to play in the annual showcase of baseball's top talent.
Future versions will be based on 2025 production, but this first round of predictions is based solely on expectations and future projection.
Using the 32-player roster format, and sticking to the rule of selecting one player from each of the 30 teams, we have assembled our way-too-early 2025 AL and NL All-Star teams.
For consistency, each roster was made up of 20 position players and 12 pitchers.
Let the debate begin.
AL Starting Lineup

AL Starting Lineup
1. CF Julio Rodríguez, SEA
2. SS Bobby Witt Jr., KC
3. RF Aaron Judge, NYY
4. DH Yordan Alvarez, HOU
5. 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr., TOR
6. 3B José Ramírez, CLE
7. LF Mike Trout, LAA
8. C Cal Raleigh, SEA
9. 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr., NYY
Notes
—Mike Trout has not been voted to start the All-Star Game since 2019, but if shifting to right field does a better job of keeping him on the field, fans could quickly rally behind him again. The 33-year-old only played 29 games last year, but he had a 140 OPS+ and 10 home runs in that limited action.
—With a 130 OPS+, 11 home runs and 18 steals in 46 games after he was traded to the Yankees last summer, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has 30/30 potential over a full season playing his home games in Yankee Stadium.
—The trio of Cal Raleigh (SEA), Adley Rutschman (BAL) and Austin Wells (NYY) could battle for the starting catcher spot in the AL lineup for the foreseeable future, as all three are great two-way backstops who are well-respected across baseball.

AL Reserves
C Austin Wells, NYY
1B Triston Casas, BOS
2B Andrés Giménez, TOR
3B Junior Caminero, TB
3B Miguel Vargas, CWS
SS Gunnar Henderson, BAL
OF Lawrence Butler, ATH
OF Jarren Duran, BOS
OF Riley Greene, DET
OF Steven Kwan, CLE
OF Wyatt Langford, TEX
Notes
—Lawrence Butler (ATH), Junior Caminero (TB), Triston Casas (BOS), Wyatt Langford (TEX), Miguel Vargas (CWS) and Austin Wells (NYY) would all be first-time All-Star selections, with Vargas and Langford getting the nod as their team's lone representative.
—Narrowing down a field of shortstop options that also included Bo Bichette (TOR), Carlos Correa (MIN), Jeremy Peña (HOU), Corey Seager (TEX) and Anthony Volpe (NY) was extremely difficult, and any of those guys could find their way onto the team without it qualifying as a surprise.
—Miguel Vargas was a top-50 prospect in baseball just a few years ago during his time in the Dodgers system, and he has never seen everyday playing time in the majors without looking over his shoulder. Now playing for the rebuilding White Sox, he will be given every chance to utilize his strong on-base skills and plus power.

AL Pitchers
SP Zach Eflin, BAL
SP Logan Gilbert, SEA
SP Ryan Pepiot, TB
SP Cole Ragans, KC
SP Joe Ryan, MIN
SP Tarik Skubal, DET
SP Jeffrey Springs, ATH
SP Framber Valdez, HOU
RP Félix Bautista, BAL
RP Emmanuel Clase, CLE
RP Jeff Hoffman, TOR
RP Mason Miller, ATH
Notes
—Zach Eflin (BAL), Ryan Pepiot (TB), Joe Ryan (MIN) and Jeffrey Springs (ATH) would all be first-time All-Star selections, with Ryan checking in as the only pick for the Twins.
—After leading the majors in WHIP (0.89) while finishing sixth in AL Cy Young voting a year ago, Logan Gilbert is my pick to earn the starting nod on the mound for the American League. He would join Randy Johnson (1995, 1997) and Félix Hernández (2014) as the only Mariners pitchers to receive that honor.
—A healthy Félix Bautista is a strong candidate for AL Comeback Player of the Year honors, and he will bring some welcome stability to the back of an Orioles bullpen that had 21 blown saves a year ago.

2. RF Fernando Tatis Jr., SD
3. LF Juan Soto, NYM
4. 3B Manny Machado, SD
5. 1B Freddie Freeman, LAD
6. SS Elly De La Cruz, CIN
7. CF Michael Harris II, ATL
8. C William Contreras, MIL
9. 2B Tommy Edman, LAD
Notes
—Elly De La Cruz vs. Mookie Betts for the starting NL shortstop spot pits two of the most popular players in baseball right now against each other in the voting, and it will be interesting to see if De La Cruz can earn his first career start.
—It's tempting to pencil a few more Dodgers players into the starting lineup given the sheer quantity of star power on their roster, but it's worth remembering that Shohei Ohtani was the only Dodgers player voted as a starter a year ago.
—After winning NLCS MVP honors and then signing a five-year, $74 million extension during the offseason, Tommy Edman is now seeking his first career All-Star selection. The 29-year-old has quietly tallied 18.1 WAR in seven seasons, including a 6.2-WAR campaign in 2022.

NL Reserves
C Patrick Bailey, SF
1B Pete Alonso, NYM
1B Bryce Harper, PHI
2B Matt McLain, CIN
3B Austin Riley, ATL
SS Mookie Betts, LAD
IF/OF Brendan Donovan, STL
OF Corbin Carroll, ARI
OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, CHC
OF Kyle Tucker, CHC
OF James Wood, WAS
Notes
—Patrick Bailey (SF), Pete Crow-Armstrong (CHC), Brendan Donovan (STL), Matt McLain (CIN), James Wood (WAS) would all be first-time All-Star selections, and that group is a small snapshot of some of the up-and-coming talent in the National League.
—Fans might not reward Bailey's elite defense, but his skills behind the plate could be rewarded by his peers and coaches with a reserve role, though he will need to battle J.T. Realmuto (PHI), Will Smith (LAD) and others for that job.
—Shortstop Francisco Lindor is a historically slow starter, and he has not been an All-Star since 2019 as a result. He stands as one of the bigger snubs after finishing runner-up in NL MVP balloting a year ago, but history is not on his side and he is off to another slow start.
NL Pitchers

NL Pitchers

SP Cristopher Sánchez, PHI
SP Spencer Schwellenbach, ATL
SP Paul Skenes, PIT
SP Logan Webb, SF
SP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, LAD
RP Seth Halvorsen, COL
RP Raisel Iglesias, ATL
RP Justin Martínez, ARI
Notes
—Dylan Cease (SD), MacKenzie Gore (WAS), Seth Halvorsen (COL), Raisel Iglesias (ATL), Justin Martínez (ARI), Spencer Schwellenbach (ATL) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) would all be first-time All-Stars, with Cease and Iglesias being two of the best active players who have never made a trip to the Midsummer Classic.
—With free agency looming next winter, Cease could be in for a big 2025 season, and the Milton, Georgia native would be a fitting pick to start for the NL with the game set to be played about 25 miles from his hometown at Truist Park in Atlanta.
—Will Sandy Alcántara still be a member of the Marlins by the time the All-Star Game arrives? The 2022 NL Cy Young winner looks like one of baseball's most obvious trade candidates as he returns from a 2024 season that was lost to Tommy John surgery. If he gets traded before rosters are announced, it will be interesting to see who the pick is for a rebuilding Marlins squad.
