NBA Playoff Picture 2025 Predictions for Complete Seedings for East and West Brackets
The race to the 2025 NBA playoffs has been an absolute doozy.
In the Eastern Conference, the top three seeds should remain unchanged, but there's potential for the 4, 5, and 6 seeds to all flip.
Then, there's the Wild Wild West, and boy, are things hectic there.
In the Western Conference, the No. 4 seed and first play-in spot at No. 7 are just three games apart.
Meanwhile, Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns are hoping to sneak in, just a game behind the Sacramento Kings for the final play-in spot.
With the clock ticking, how will it all unfold?
Here's a look at seeding predictions for each conference.
Full Eastern Conference Postseason Seeding Predictions
1 of 2
1. Cleveland Cavaliers
2. Boston Celtics
3. New York Knicks
4. Indiana Pacers
5. Milwaukee Bucks
6. Detroit Pistons
7. Orlando Magic
8. Atlanta Hawks
9. Chicago Bulls
10. Miami Heat
The Detroit Pistons have had one of the best one-year turnarounds in sports history.
They are the first team to triple their win total from a year prior and already have 11 more wins this season than the last two years combined.
Cade Cunningham should warrant some All-NBA First-Team votes while J.B. Bickerstaff has made a legit case for Coach of the Year.
Heck, they may even win a playoff series for the first time since 2008.
But they can’t play up to completion and are 10-20 against teams above .500.
Detroit has the third-toughest remaining strength of schedule, which includes upcoming road games at Minnesota and Oklahoma City.
Conversely, the Milwaukee Bucks, who are 1.5 games behind Detroit for the No. 5 seed, have three remaining games against the lowly New Orleans Pelicans and the Philadelphia 76ers.
The final two head-to-head matches between Detroit and Milwaukee, which I believe the Bucks will sweep, could determine the No. 5 seed.
Full Western Conference Postseason Seeding Predictions
2 of 2
1. Oklahoma City Thunder
2. Houston Rockets
3. Denver Nuggets
4. Los Angeles Lakers
5. Los Angeles Clippers
6. Golden State Warriors
7. Memphis Grizzlies
8. Minnesota Timberwolves
9. Dallas Mavericks
10. Sacramento Kings
If you like chaos, the Western Conference has got it for you.
Aside from the Oklahoma City Thunder, who clinched the top seed on March 21, 2025, with 13 games to go in the regular season, the rest of the bracket could easily change.
The No. 2 and No. 4 seeds are separated by 3 games, while the No. 4 seed and first play-in No. 7 seed are separated by 2.5.
So, how will these events all play out? All six seeds in the west should be safe with the exception of Memphis.
Since March 12, the Grizzlies have lost six of their last eight, with inexcusable double-digit drubbings in road games against the Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers.
The team shocked the NBA a few days ago when the front office decided to fire six-year head coach Taylor Jenkins, who just two years ago led the Grizzlies to the No. 2 seed and is the team's all-time leader in wins.
The Grizzlies will need to quickly bounce back to avoid playing in the play-in round.
However, facing remaining games against the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves presents a challenge.
Like the Pistons, the Grizzlies record against teams above .500 is quite problematic, and they've won just 11 of those 32 matchups.
I anticipate the Golden State Warriors, who are currently playing their most impressive basketball down the stretch and have won 10 of their last 13, squeezing into the No. 6 seed.
As such, the Clippers should move up to No. 5, and the Grizzlies should drop to No. 7.
As far as the final play-in spot in the West, there will be no last-minute surge from the Phoenix Suns, who have the toughest remaining strength of schedule.
