J.B. Bickerstaff, Pistons Hyped By NBA Fans for Historic Turnaround After Win vs. Cavs
The Detroit Pistons continued their impressive 2024-25 season with a 133-122 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.
Detroit's victory over a Cavaliers team that owns the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference standings was especially impressive considering star point guard Cade Cunningham missed his third consecutive game with a bruised calf.
After finishing with a league-worst 14-68 record last season, the Pistons have now tripled their prior win total.
Fans and players alike were amazed by the win as well as Detroit's season as a whole.
Detroit has now won 17 of its past 23 games, currently sitting at No. 5 in the East standings with a 42-32 overall record. The Pistons' 42 total wins are more than their past two seasons combined (31).
Tim Hardaway Jr. led the way for Detroit on Friday, scoring a team-high 32 points while shooting 7-of-11 from three-point territory.
Three separate players finished with double-doubles for the Pistons. Dennis Schröder scored 17 points and dished out 10 assists, while Ausar Thompson recorded 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Jalen Duren also racked up 13 rebounds to go along with his 16 points.
Detroit was efficient throughout the contest, finishing with 47.8/44.1/85.7 shooting splits as a team and leading by as many as 21 points.
The Pistons have excelled defensively throughout the year but have stepped up their offense as of late, as their 120.9 offensive rating over their past 10 games ranks No. 5 in the association over that span (via NBA.com).
In addition to clinching a winning record, head coach J.B. Bickerstaff's squad is now three wins away from recording its highest win total since the 2007-08 season.
Detroit will now look to secure its fourth consecutive victory on Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
