James is averaging 24.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.4 assists this season. There isn't another historic parallel in the NBA when it comes to somebody in his 40s performing this well on the court.
LeBron has clearly taken diligent care with his body, and it stands to reason the cost of his training and recovery regimen starts to add up.
James is also making $48.7 million just from his NBA contract on top of another $85 million in reported endorsement money. Spending $1 million is a drop in the bucket for him.
In terms of where the figure came from, the future Hall of Famer will have to ask his own people.
Maverick Carter, one of James' business associates, said in 2018 the price tag was around $1.5 million:
Even if that's not the case, it's safe to assume your average NBA fan probably can't afford to drop the kind of cash James is to extend his playing career.
