RJ Explains Harden Scuffle
Jerome, the 24th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, has been a bit of a journeyman to start his career. After being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns before the start of the season. Following his rookie year in Phoenix, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he spent two seasons.
After being waived by the Thunder before the start of the 2022-23 season, he joined the Golden State Warriors on a two-way contract.
He finally landed with the Cavaliers ahead of the 2023 season, but didn't establish his position in the rotation until 2024-25. Once he cracked the rotation, Jerome put up the best numbers of his career.
He averaged 12.5 points per game while playing just 19.9 minutes off the bench, proving to be a vital piece for one of the best teams in the league during the regular season. His efforts were enough to make him a finalist for Sixth Man of the Year.
After a strong regular season, Jerome was a bit underwhelming in the playoffs, averaging 11.7 points on 40.2 percent from the field in nine games. Still, Jerome proved himself as a reliable option off the bench, and he'll look to continue improving in Year 6.
The career year for Jerome helped him finally find his place in the NBA, and now he'll look to be just as productive in Memphis.
Jerome has come off the bench for most of his career but could get the chance to start in Memphis. The battle for the starting shooting guard spot will presumably be between Jerome and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Though Caldwell-Pope gives the Grizzlies a bit more defense and has more experience as a starter, Jerome is the better option offensively.
Regardless of whether he earns a starting role or continues to come off the bench, Jerome will play an integral role in Memphis.
