Mitchell averaged 4.9 points through 29 games and nine starts for Minnesota this season.
After playing hockey for most of his life until switching to basketball at the age of 18, Mitchell started out at Toronto's Humber College before transferring to Canisius.
He then earned All-MAAC Second Team honors in 2023-24 after averaging 11.6 rebounds per game, good for the fourth-most in men's college basketball.
Mitchell missed the first two games of his 2024-25 season with Minnesota due to a shoulder injury. He then made nine straight starts for the Gophers, averaging 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game over the stretch.
The big man missed one game in late December with concussion symptoms. He later returned to spend the rest of the season coming off the bench.
The Gophers came to rely on Mitchell more as his minutes climbed over 20 per game during the final eight games of the season. He posted 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, and recorded consecutive double-doubles against Wisconsin and Rutgers, over the stretch.
Listed at 260 pounds, Mitchell upped his speed after he lost more than 30 pounds during his single season at Minnesota, per Andy Greder of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
St. Bonaventure will now help that improved mobility, combined with Mitchell's rebounding skills and his adjustment to the jump from the MAAC, will lead to another step forward next season.
The Bonnies have so far lost starters Lajae Jones and Jonah Hinton to the transfer portal, but are expecting the returns of Desonte Bowen and Xander Wedlow next season, per Connor Jackson of the Olean Times Herald.
