Report: Anthony Davis to Return from Injury for Mavs vs. Nets; Likely Out vs. Knicks
Anthony Davis is back.
The Dallas Mavericks superstar will make his return to the court on Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets, according to multiple reports, after a lengthy stint on the sidelines.
Davis, 32, has appeared in just one game for the Mavs since the controversial and shocking Luka Dončić trade. Davis played 31 minutes in a Feb. 8 win over the Houston Rockets, notching 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks.
But he was sidelined from there with an adductor strain, and the Mavericks have been ravaged with injuries in general, at times playing with the league-minimum eight players (fewer active players would force the team to forfeit games). The result has been Dallas going just 6-12 since Davis' injury, dropping them to 11th in the Western Conference with an overall record of 34-37.
"Honestly, I haven't [seen anything like this]," Naji Marshall told reporters on March 9 while speaking about the team's injury woes. "But this is our job. All those guys in the front office signed all of us on the roster hoping that if we had to play we could fill the shoes of the next man. I'm just going to keep doing that until those guys get back."
The Mavericks can still fight their way into the Play-In Tournament, though with Kyrie Irving already out for the season due to a torn ACL, Davis working his way back into top form and the Mavericks still trying to get healthy across the board, it's a bit of a long shot.
Still, a healthy Davis will give the Mavericks a solid boost. And with the Phoenix Suns limping their way through the latter stages of the season as well, the Mavs could yet steal a Play-In berth.
