Video: Charvarius Ward Shades Cowboys for Trading Him to Chiefs Before 2018 NFL Season
Newly signed Indianapolis Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward took a humorous shot at the team he started his NFL career with.
In a new interview with the Colts, Ward discussed his time with the Dallas Cowboys in 2018.
Ward recalled his performance during training camp and the preseason as an undrafted rookie, saying: "I was strappin' all them boys. I thought I was gonna make the team with Dallas, but Dallas don't make a lot of good decisions, so they ended up trading me to Kansas City."

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
After starring collegiately at Middle Tennessee, Ward was not taken in the 2018 NFL draft, but he made a strong impression after signing with the Cowboys.
Despite showcasing great potential, Dallas traded Ward to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for guard Parker Ehinger, who was a 2016 fourth-round pick.
That move paid huge dividends for the Chiefs, as Ward spent four seasons in KC, starting 43 of the 56 games he appeared in, and recording 222 tackles, four interceptions and 29 passes defended.
Ward was also a starter on the Chiefs' 2019 Super Bowl-winning team, and he helped Kansas City reach the Super Bowl the next season as well.
In 2022, Ward signed a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency, and he started 46 games for them over three seasons, earning his first Pro Bowl selection in 2023.
All told, Ward has 10 interceptions and 70 passes defended in 102 career games, far exceeding what anyone could have expected out of an undrafted player.
As for the Cowboys, they have just two playoff wins since Ward entered the league, and they have not even reached the NFC Championship Game since 1995.
Ehinger, who was acquired in the trade for Ward, never appeared in a game for the Cowboys, and he last played in 2021 with the Detroit Lions.
Meanwhile, Ward is still thriving, and he figures to be the Colts' No. 1 corner for the foreseeable future after signing a three-year deal with them in free agency.
